Cyber expert CrowdStrike has announced a new security tool designed to operate side by side with Microsoft Defender.

Falcon for Defender is designed not to replace Defender, but to tackle any attacks that Defender might miss.

The new tool is a part of CrowdStrike’s Falcon XDR platform and takes advantage of that platform’s artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Falcon for Defender can be deployed quickly and easily and without rebooting and provides visibility into threats designed to get around Microsoft’s security tool.

“Security professionals saddled with deploying Microsoft Defender through E3 and E5 licensing have long asked us for help. Falcon for Defender fills critical security gaps at a disruptive price point,” Michael Sentonas, president at CrowdStrike, said in a statement.

“Delivering visibility into missed threats and best-in-class threat hunting raises the cyber security bar. Falcon for Defender gives cyber security professionals the technology they want and need with the outcome they so desperately seek – stopping the breach.”

In related news, CrowdStrike has expanded its partnership with operational technology security firm Dragos.

“The number and sophistication of cyber threats to industrial systems is on the rise, and SOCs are increasingly charged with protecting operational technology in addition to IT,” Matt Cowell, global vice-president of business development at Dragos, said.

“Our expanded partnership with CrowdStrike will give SOC analysts the OT technology and insights they need to defend their entire organisation.”
