Gamers all over the world are flocking to forums to share tales of woe and theories behind massive disruption to PlayStation’s online service.
Thousands of gamers expecting a relaxing session of their favourite PlayStation games have found only disappointment as the PlayStation Network is dealing with a worldwide outage.
The Network Service Status page for Sony’s popular gaming console is currently reporting that “Some services are experiencing issues”.
Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, and the PlayStation Store all report much the same problem.
“You might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features,” the status page currently says.
“We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”
The issue – which is currently unknown – was also impacting the PlayStation Direct service; however, that is now back up. The issue appears to have begun around four hours ago, when gamers turned en masse to Reddit to share their frustrations.
“I was playing Red Dead Online with a friend, then we both suddenly abandoned the party and the game crashed, then I tried to start Rocket League and it just won’t load. Is anybody having the same issue?” one gamer said in a Reddit thread on /r/PS5.
The thread now has more than 4,500 replies, most in a similar vein. However, some are also sharing their suspicions about what may be the cause of the outage.
“This is the worst crash I’ve probably ever seen on PlayStation. This has to be a hack, the last time servers crashed this hard was the PS3 hack,” another gamer said.
“If you can’t even load into the store then it pretty much has to be, it’s the last thing they will let fail.”
The PlayStation outage came an hour after US telco giant Verizon resumed service after a seven-hour outage of its own.
So far, Sony has not outlined the cause of the disruption. Cyber Daily has reached out to PlayStation Australia for comment.
