The role of chief information security officer (CISO) for the NSW Police is now vacant after Michael Marsden, the first person to take up the role, announced his leave.
Marsden has been in the position for over four and a half years after he left his role as manager of strategy and design at Qantas for the job in 2018, becoming the first NSW Police CISO.
As CISO, Marsden answered to then NSW Police chief information and technology officer (CITO) and executive director of digital technology and innovation Gordon Dunsford.
The search for a replacement CISO is being undertaken by inspector Rod Ormes of the cyber security and technology command unit.
The new CISO will be responsible for reporting cyber security, operational risks, data recovery and resiliency sub-domains and IT security operations.
“The chief information security officer drives the development, implementation and support of ICT security best practice standards and ensures compliance to deliver secure and reliable systems,” said the listing for the role.
“The CISO leads, directs and manages human and technical resources to develop and maintain the security domain of the enterprise-wide ICT strategy, architectures and standards.”
According to ITNews, NSW Police said that an acting CISO is currently in place to cover the responsibilities of the role but has not provided a name.
