“World-first” data platform aims to speed up private sector pre-planning processes and keep government and industry on the same page.
A first-of-its-kind data platform dedicated to land management has been licensed for industry use after being developed by the NSW government in collaboration with WSP Australia, Giraffe, and Aerometrex.
Land iQ combines 75 land-use data types and more than 200 data sources to provide a faster pre-planning process and to ensure that both the public and private sectors are working on the same page.
The platform can also assist with land valuations, risk assessments, and the digitisation of the property sector.
Notably, Land iQ was essential in supporting the recovery process following the 2022 Northern Rivers floods, identifying suitable locations for emergency accommodation.
Now that it’s licensed for wider use, it’s expected to be an important tool in the property management sector, urban planning and research, and for local Aboriginal land councils.
“The Minns government is pulling every lever available to address the housing crisis. We have developed an industry-leading platform that can help speed up the pre-planning process, it only makes sense that we make this critical tool available so that everyone can benefit,” Steve Kamper, Minister for Lands and Property, said in a statement.
Kamper added that effective land use is an important element of quality of life, the economy, and the environment.
“Investing in our public service can deliver results beyond what was anticipated, and I congratulate Property and Development NSW and its development partners for pioneering this exciting technology that has been serving government and will now be rolled out for licensed use by the private sector,” Minister Kamper said.
Leon Walker, deputy secretary of Property and Development NSW, added that Land iQ’s smart technology will streamline planning and reduce the time required to perform due diligence on potential uses of land.
“Its extensive analysis tools and comprehensive statewide datasets provide an excellent source of information not only for government but private sector planners, property managers, developers and the research sector,” Walker said.
