The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Cyber and Critical Tech Cooperation Program (CCTCP) has announced an open call for funding proposals, with a focus on nations in the south-east Asia region.

The CCTCP Open Call (April 2024) is looking to support “practical cooperation on cyber and critical technologies”, focusing on eight countries in the region: Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

“Cyber capacity building is so important for a cyber-resilient region,” said Brendan Dowling, Australia’s ambassador for cyber affairs and critical technology, in a statement.

“Proud to be working with our partners in south-east Asia and the Pacific to uplift their cyber capabilities and maximise the opportunities of cyber space.”

DFAT said any proposal should focus on developing the knowledge and skills of government officials and cyber security workers when it comes to international law and cyber incident response, as well as those promoting a free and open “cyber space”. Proposals can include practical initiatives supporting capacity building, collaborative projects implementing standards and critical technologies, as well as initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion by design.

Proposals are also open to Pacific island nations looking to uplift their cyber maturity and develop a security roadmap.

The funding call is open to proposals from non-government organisations, research institutions, universities, non-corporate and corporate commonwealth entities, and multilateral or international organisations.

The CCTCP Open Call (April 2024) is open until 10 May. Successful proposals will receive up to $200,000 for up to three years.

The Cyber and Critical Tech Cooperation Program was established in 2016, and it focuses on promoting cyber resilience in the Indo-Pacific region.
