International OT-ICS cyber security provider Dragos has announced the launch of their new OT-CERT to support industrial asset owners and operators to develop OT cyber security processes and mitigate their OT risk.

The OT-CERT is available via the company’s OT-CERT portal, with member organisations receiving free access to best practice surrounding OT, as well as maturity assessments and training in the form of workshops and webinars.

According to the company, organisations of all sizes are eligible for membership, with larger organisations receiving free OT-best practice blogs and vulnerability disclosures, while Dragos has also committed to supporting smaller organisations to ensure the safety of the entire supply chain.

The portal will also flag cyber security vulnerabilities that have been discovered by Dragos with OEMs, including those threats that particularly target the OEMs’ products.

Dragos’ portal and readiness team were developed to address the gap in cyber security intelligence for industrial infrastructure, including the lack of OT-centric resources primarily among SMEs who have limited resources to address complex ICS/OT security threats.

“Dragos’ stated mission is to safeguard civilisation, and that means protecting all industrial infrastructure, not just the most skilled or the best resourced organisations,” Dawn Cappelli, Dragos’ newly appointed OT-CERT director, said.

“Our goal for Dragos OT-CERT is to be a useful, relevant, and actionable community resource for industrial asset owners and operators by aligning them with the resources, training, partnerships, and community needed to make securing their OT environments possible.”

The company notes that collaboration and partnerships are key to the success of the OT-CERT.

Throughout the launch of the product, Dragos has partnered with the US-based National Association of Manufacturers.

“The National Association of Manufacturers is deeply committed to supporting its members as they navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise from digital transformation and Manufacturing 4.0, and it’s critical that their OT security remain paramount as they undertake this evolution,” Todd Boppell, chief operating officer, National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), said.

“Of the National Association of Manufacturers’ 14,000 member companies, 90 per cent are small and medium-sized manufacturers that often lack the kind of resources and OT cyber security teams that larger organisations have. Dragos OT-CERT is the first community-focused resource of its kind to provide practical solutions to this often under-served community.”

Dragos’ announcement has been welcomed by the US-manufacturing industry.

“Industrial Infrastructure organisations, and the services they provide, impact all of our lives, and the operational technologies that underpin these organisations are under attack now more than ever before,” Michael Lester, director of cybersecurity strategy, governance and architecture for Emerson’s Automation Solutions business, said.

“We’re eager to work with Dragos OT-CERT in its mission to protect OT infrastructure by partnering on threat and vulnerability discovery and mitigation as well as assets for resource-constrained organisations.”
