US home and business physical security provider ADT has confirmed that hackers obtained a “limited” amount of customer information, according to a recent SEC filing.
Physical security provider ADT has confirmed that unauthorised actors gained access to customer information, obtaining email addresses, phone numbers, and postal addresses, in a recent US Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The confirmation came as two users netnsher and grimoire claimed responsibility for the attack on BreachedForums, alleging to have exposed “over 30,812 records, including 30,400 unique emails”.
The threat actors also claimed to have information on the products bought by the users.
According to the filing, the company does not believe that home security systems have been compromised, nor have unauthorised users gained access to financial information of the customers.
“After becoming aware of the incident, the company promptly took steps to shut down the unauthorised access and launched an investigation, partnering with leading third-party cyber security industry experts. The attackers nonetheless obtained some limited customer information, including email addresses, phone numbers and postal addresses,” the company said.
“Based on its investigation to date, the company has no reason to believe that customers’ home security systems were compromised during this incident. Additionally, the company has no reason to believe the attackers obtained other personally sensitive information, such as credit card data or banking information.
“The company is continuing its investigation into this cyber security incident and has notified the customers it believes to have been affected, who comprise a small percentage of the company’s overall subscriber base.”
