Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles has announced the appointment of Stephanie Crowe as the new head of the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre.
Crowe’s appointment as a key leader in this mission highlights her extensive expertise in cyber security and her proven ability to address nationally significant cyber events. Through her 15-year career with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), Crowe has held numerous pivotal roles in signals intelligence and cyber security.
Her work has included leading ASD’s technical advice and assistance programs for industry, supporting businesses in strengthening their defences against cyber threats and developing ASD’s cyber threat intelligence capabilities to better identify, analyse and respond to emerging risks. Her experience spans both government and industry, where she has played a crucial role in enhancing Australia’s cyber resilience.
Minister Marles said: “I am pleased to see Ms Crowe appointed to this important position. Her experience and expertise across the cyber domain sees her well placed to lead the Australian Cyber Security Centre, at a time where we see Australian networks increasingly targeted by malicious cyber actors.”
The Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) is the Australian government’s leading authority on cyber security, dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s critical infrastructure, businesses and individuals from the growing threat of cyber attacks.
Abigail Bradshaw CSC said of the appointment: “Stephanie has the proven experience in intelligence and cyber operations and has established close relationships with international and industry leaders in cyber security, vital to combating the dynamic and challenging cyber threat environment.”
The ACSC provides organisations, both large and small, with the opportunity to collaborate with the government and adopt a comprehensive security framework designed to protect their information technology and operational technology systems, applications and data.
“Stephanie acutely understands the cyber threats and challenges facing all Australians against a backdrop of rapid advancements in critical and emerging technologies and how we can better engage them through continued government-industry collaboration,” Bradshaw said.
This announcement comes alongside the recent appointment of Bradshaw as Director-General of the Australian Signals Directorate. Together, Bradshaw and Crowe bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to Australia’s cyber security landscape, ensuring the government is well equipped to confront the evolving challenges of the digital age.
Crowe said: “I look forward to leading ASD’s team of cyber security experts in strengthening Australia’s cyber resilience.”
Their combined efforts will further bolster the nation’s capacity to defend against cyber threats and promote a secure and resilient online environment for all Australians.
