Hackers claim to have encrypted and stolen data from a family-owned outdoor leisure wholesaler and distributor.
The Victoria-based Sitro Group Australia has been listed as a victim of the INC Ransom ransomware gang.
The outdoor leisure wholesaler and distributor was listed in a leak post on 10 March. INC Ransom also published three documents as evidence of the hack’s success.
The documents include a file listing of data backups, a non-disclosure agreement between the Sitro Group Australia and a Chinese manufacturer and what appears to be a customer database.
INC Ransom did not list a date of publication, nor its ransom demand. It did, however, claim to have encrypted the data it had stolen.
Cyber Daily has reached out to Sitro Group Australia for comment on the alleged incident but has yet to receive a response.
INC Ransom has been in operation since August 2023 and has claimed attacks on a total of 271 organisations since then.
The gang is known to use spearphishing tactics to get into target networks and employs double-extortion techniques, both encrypting the data it steals and then threatening to publish the data online. It mostly targets entities in Europe and North America, but it has also targeted a significant number of Australian organisations.
INC Ransom’s last Australian victim was the Sydney-based radiology practice Spectrum Medical Imaging, which was listed on the gang’s leak site in early January.
Sitro Group Australia is headquartered in Mt Waverley, Victoria. In addition to its distribution and wholesale business, it designs and supplies its own house-branded products.
“Our products are distributed to all of Australia’s leading appliance retailers, DIY hardware stores, and specialty retailers,” Sitro Group Australia said on the About Us page of its website.
Sitro Group Australia’s supported brands include Honeywell, Gasmate, B&B Charcoal, and the company’s own Smart Marketing Group.
