Airbus has tapped a Canberra-based IT and cyber security company to support its push to secure a Defence contract.
Local technology services provider Willyama is the latest member of Team Maier – an Airbus-led cooperative gunning for the Commonwealth government’s JP9102 Australian Defence SATCOM System contract.
Willyama – which employs approximately 50 staff nationally with a strong focus on indigenous and veteran employment – offers classified networking planning, end-to-end cyber security, and hardware and software procurement.
The Canberra-based company will be tasked with delivering "secret" and "top secret" security accreditation for Team Maier, while also advising on the risk management strategy, system architecture and security controls proposed by the JP9102 cooperative.

“It’s a unique opportunity to be part of something that will be integral to the sovereign space landscape for years to come, and we’re pleased to use our extensive capabilities to contribute to the success of Team Maier.”
Martin Rowse, Airbus campaign lead for the JP9102 program said Willyama’s membership would bolster the team’s information sovereignty and security proposition.
“Airbus and Team Maier partners have already spent hundreds of hours collaborating to deliver the best offer to the Australian Defence Force, and we know Willyama will be a key part of building Australia’s sovereign space capabilities for the long term,” Rowse added.
Willyama is the latest of a number of companies to join Team Maier, following the likes of engineering and utilities provider UGL, satellite technology manufacturer Blacktree Technology and global tech giant Microsoft.
The bolstered Airbus-led team will be competing against a host of other major contractors, including Boeing Defence Australia (BDA), Lockheed Martin Australia (LMA) and telecommunications giant Optus.
BDA’s team includes Leidos Australia, Viasat, the Indigenous Defence and Infrastructure Consortium, and Saber.
LMA recently signed a teaming agreement with Shoal Group, expected to leverage its experience in model-based systems engineering.
Airbus, BDA, and LMA have also requested the services of network infrastructure provider Clearbox Systems.
Meanwhile Optus, Raytheon Australia and Thales Australia have formed Team AUSSAT to support their push for the next-generation military SATCOM contract.
The JP9102 tender is scheduled to close on 24 December.
