Wesfarmers is setting up their new “cyber fusion centre” that is designed to serve the company’s retail and industrial businesses.
Well known Aussie brands like Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks and Catch, which all belong under the Wesfarmers corporate umbrella, are in the process of backing the centre within the group's cyber security team.
Wesfarmers is aiming to bolster the group's security posture with the "proactive" and "intelligence-driven" centre designed to protect the “businesses, customers and stakeholders from ever-evolving and sophisticated global cyber security threats".
A cyber offensive lead is in the process of being recruited, who will be reporting to group chief information security officer Daniella Traino.
In addition to improving Wesfarmers' security posture, the new lead will be tasked with steering red and purple team engagements, along with "identifying cyber defence gaps and recommending changes".
Wesfarmers is one of Australia's largest listed companies and prides itself on its perpetual reinvention "for the brands they stand behind" by being results-focused via providing employees with autonomy, space and freedom to operate in order to foster a collaborative environment, according to its website.
In an interview with iTnews, a Wesfarmers spokesperson revealed that the company's current security team is "being expanded to increase capabilities for responding to, and preparing for, cyber threats".
"This enhances our understanding of threat actors, tools, techniques and practices to make our systems safer by design and to safeguard critical information, assets and services," the Wesfarmers spokesperson said.
