Samsung Electronics got hit by a cyber attack in July that exposed personal information of some customers in the US.
The South Korean multinational electronics corporation has disclosed that it called in assistance from a cyber security firm and law enforcement after it was hit by data breach in July.
Samsung has disclosed that some US customer data exposed included names, contact and demographic details, date of birth and product registration data. The company confirmed customers' social security numbers and credit card numbers were not compromised.
In a security advisory issued in late July, Samsung revealed that an unauthorised third party acquired information from some of Samsung's US systems.
"On or around August 4, 2022, we determined through our ongoing investigation that personal information of certain customers was affected," Samsung told Reuters.
"We have taken actions to secure the affected systems and have engaged a leading outside cyber security firm and are coordinating with law enforcement," the company added.
According to the company, the type of data exposed for each customer "may vary" but confirmed the affected customers are being contacted.
