The personal details of the retail store’s loyalty program members have been exposed following the breach of a former supplier, with The Good Guys contacting customers with the “nature of the specific information involved for each affected individual”.
The retailer informed customers on its Updates page, revealing that the IT systems of Pegasus Group Australia, a former supplier, had been breached.
“The Good Guys has been notified that the IT systems of a former third-party supplier, Pegasus Group Australia Pty Ltd, now known as My Rewards Pty Ltd, have been improperly accessed by an unauthorised user,” the update revealed.
The Good Guys, however, confirmed that its internal IT systems had not been involved.
The third-party supplier held the names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of the company’s Concierge members — The Good Guys’ loyalty program.
Some, who set up an online account, may also have their date of birth held by the company.
The hack is believed to have occurred in August 2021.
“My Rewards has confirmed that no personal identity documents or financial information such as driver’s licence, passport or credit card data [are] involved in the breach,” the update read.
“The Good Guys is directly contacting Concierge members who may have been impacted by the My Rewards data breach. The nature of the specific information involved for each affected individual is set out in the communication that the individual receives from The Good Guys.”
