Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the US are the five member nations that make up the intelligence-sharing grouping.

Paravision had already developed a prototype of the platform after an initial contract period that began in June 2022. The company will now be able to complete the project and create a fully working final product within one year.

The detection platform is built around a deepfake-detecting artificial intelligence (AI) engine as well as a web-based version that can be deployed on-premises to keep people inside the detection loop. Experts will be able to review and confirm the AI’s results.

Paravision’s AI systems have already managed “best-in-class” performance when it comes to detecting deepfakes within academic literature. The fulfilment of this contract will allow the company to bring its finished project to market.

“Synthetic imagery in general and deepfakes specifically pose substantial risks to identity, privacy, democracy, national security, and human rights,” said Joey Pritikin, Paravision chief product officer, in an announcement. “We are proud to continue our work with a respected government partner and to have their support as we bring advanced deepfake detection technology to market.”

Paravision is a leader in “globally deployed AI software that is ethically developed, conscientiously sold and built for the most challenging applications”. It was the first US-based company to rank first in the gold standard benchmark for facial recognition technology, NIST 1:N, and managed an impressive perfect score across all categories in the April 2023 DHS Biometric Technology Rally.
