Two organisations are pairing up to tackle the ongoing shortage of cyber security specialists and provide First Nations people from across the world with opportunities in the industry.
The Cyber Leadership Institute (CLI) is a global provider of cyber security training programs, while MyCISO is a security management platform. The pair are co-funding a new scholarship program aimed at educating and training indigenous people for leadership roles in cyber security.
According to the First Nations People Workforce Analysis report, published by Jobs and Skills Australia in June 2023, First Nations people are very poorly represented in IT positions. Only 21 per cent of First Nations people go on to work in a field they studied.
“MyCISO is excited to be partnering with CLI as the organisation recognises the need to develop the next generation of cyber leaders, particularly amongst First Nations people, who are historically under-represented in this sector,” said Dane Meah, chief executive and co-founder of MyCISO, in a statement.
“Cyber leaders are under increasing pressure to create and execute effective strategies to keep their organisations safe. The MyCISO platform, combined with the skills acquired in the CLI Cyber Leadership program, provides enormous efficiencies and know-how to create and execute an effective cyber program.”
Phil Zongo, CEO and co-founder of CLI, is similarly bullish about the scholarship program.
“Our partnership with MyCISO will help accelerate First Nations’ cyber security professionals into leadership positions,” Zongo said. “The CLI Cyber Leadership program is an intensive course that aims to elevate participant’s strategy execution, executive communication, and influencing skills, boosting their credibility with executives and boards.”
“Our partnership with MyCISO is underpinned by a shared vision to boost the productivity of CISOs and their teams. That way, we can create positive and enduring change – fostering a resilient digital ecosystem for the next generation.”
