After falling victim to a social engineering attack that saw its loyalty program impacted, the casino giant is now warning its customers in writing.
Caesars Entertainment filed a notice with the Office of the Maine Attorney General on 6 October, complete with a timeline of the incident and how many Maine citizens have been affected.
Unusually, the filing does not list the total number of people affected – that statistic is only listed as TBD, or to be determined. However, over 41,000 Maine residents are affected by the data breach.
Caesars is reported to have over 65 million people signed up for its Caesars Rewards loyalty program.
While Caesars has told loyalty program members that it is unaware that any financial or bank records are affected, nor passwords, the form letter filed with the Maine Attorney General features placeholder text where the full list of affected data would be listed for each recipient.
“The incident impacted our loyalty program database,” the letter read. “Your information is contained in that database, including, among other data, your name and <<AFFECTED DATA ELEMENTS>>.”
On the breach notice itself, Caesars noted that data includes “name or other personal identifier in combination with: driver’s licence number or non-driver identification card number”.
So far, however, it does not appear that the stolen data has appeared online.
“We have taken steps to ensure that the stolen data is deleted by the unauthorised actor, although we cannot guarantee this result,” the letter read. “We are monitoring the web and have not seen any evidence that the data has been further shared, published, or otherwise misused.”
Cyber Daily has so far found no evidence of the data either.
