Threat actors are claiming to have gained unauthorised access to the systems of the world’s number one sparkling water brand, SodaStream.
As seen on FalconFeeds by Cyber Daily, the company was allegedly hit by the Cyber Toufan Operations hacking group.
The threat actor exclusively targets Israeli and Israel-based companies in light of the conflict between the country and Hamas.
In the case of SodaStream, which is based in Israel, Cyber Toufan has said it has stolen and will publish a database containing the personal information of over 100,000 Israeli customers, with data including names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers “and more”.
The threat group also said that it has stood against the PepsiCo-owned company for years for supporting extremist settler movements.
“The multi-billion-dollar Israeli company SodaStream, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, has a long and well known history of supporting extremist settler movements,” said Cyber Toufan on its Telegram.
“The Global BDS Movement has been campaigning against SodaStream for 15+ years for such reasons.
“We at Cyber Toufan will continue our strikes against all companies supporting the occupation and aiding in the ongoing genocide in Gaza, so long as the war continues.”
At the time of publication, SodaStream has yet to issue a statement regarding the hack nor confirm if the allegations made by Cyber Toufan are, in fact, real.
Cyber Daily has reached out to SodaStream requesting further information and comment on the incident.
Cyber Toufan has only appeared recently, with its first recorded attack occurring on 18 November against the Israeli website of ACE hardware.
Since then, it has conducted at least six more attacks, including the recent one on SodaStream, as well as the Ministry of Health of Israel.
According to its most recent Telegram posts, the latest attack on SodaStream is “Day Nine – Leak Two”, suggesting the latest breach is part of a larger campaign.
The group has also warned Israeli organisations that it is coming for them, with foreboding messages on its Telegram.
“To all the Zionist companies and organisations affected, those that know – and those that are yet to be informed. Your turn will come, one by one.
“Netanyahu has chosen a path of self-destruction. You are just the collateral damage. We will not stop so long as the war continues. It’s your choice after all.”
Another point of interest is the group’s attempt to rally people to fight against Israel through cyber warfare. Cyber Toufan shared a Telegram post from fellow threat actor Anonymous Global, which invited users to click a link and click an “Attack Israel” button.
This, in effect, democratises a DDoS attack, using individual computers to repeatedly send packets to an Israeli site or server and overload it.
